A new Pixar film comes to theaters this month. Elio is a sci-fi adventure directed Adrian Molina, Madeline Sharafian, and Turning Red's Domee Shi. It follows an eleven-year-old boy named Elio Solis who inadvertently becomes Earth's intergalactic ambassador after being beamed up into space by aliens.

Sci-fi stories are beloved by people of all ages, especially ones featuring aliens of various shapes and sizes. Elio could be a great introduction to the genre for younger kids, or just a reminder or why this genre is so beloved to fans in the know. And there are plenty of alien-themed books for middle grade and young adult readers out there.

Here are eight titles to check out after Elio.

The Animorphs Series: The Invasion

By K.A. Applegate

The Animorphs series is one of the true icons of '90s children’s fiction. Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Tobias, and Marco are perfectly normal kids when they see a strange light in the sky one fateful night. An alien informs them that the planet has been infiltrated by the Yeerks, parasitic aliens who take over other bodies by crawling into their brain. It's up to the kids to stop the war, and they have new abilities to help them: They become Animorphs, shapeshifters who can transform into any animal they touch.

Now, Liam and his new friends are 239,000 miles away from home, and space is full of things that he could never see or believe on Earth.
