On April 23, a television series adaptation of Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse book universe premieres on Netflix.

The Shadow and Bone series — titled after the first book in the fantasy adventure trilogy — stars Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Ben Barnes as General Kirigan, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, and Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa.

In a war-torn world in which magical soldiers known as Grisha are trained in an elite army, orphan Alina spent most of her life thinking she was powerless. Shocked by the emergence of rare and incredible powers, Alina must face off against deceit and a dark, growing evil.

The rich world Bardugo crafted in her nuanced Grishaverse is full of interesting, complex, and lovable characters that many readers find highly relatable. But what do the stars have to say about it? Find out which character in the Grishaverse you are based on your zodiac sign!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Genya Safin

Those born under the sign of the Ram are known for their courageousness and determination. Who better to exemplify that than Genya Safin?

A survivor of long-term abuse and violence, Genya is nothing if not resilient. As a fire sign, Aries tends to be a sign of passion — a driving force which can also present itself as aggression. It's a fault which seems rightfully earned given Genya's circumstances. When she's not poisoning kings, this skilled Tailor's hands are never idle — a trait similar to that constant need of activity in an Aries.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Malyen Oretsev

Malyen Oretsev is an exceptional tracker — a skill which gives him the grounded and practical likeness of an Earth sign like Taurus.

Though one of the more reliable and devoted signs, a Taurus also has the inclination to be resistant to change and prone to jealousy. When Mal reunited with his childhood friend and love Alina Starkov at the Little Palace, he was not all happy to see how different she was after harnessing her powers — or how close she had gotten to the Darkling.

Still, despite this sign's negative reaction to the slightest whiff of personal insecurity, a Taurus will always endure. Especially if love is on the line.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Jesper Fahey

This sharpshooter is filled to the brim with sarcastic wit and a cocky charm. But true to the nature of the sign of the Twin, he's not without a dual nature.

A Gemini's insecurities can rise to the surface at the drop of a dime, flipping their quick-witted and impulsive nature into a more reserved and somber state.

This sign is also prone to feeling like they never have enough time and space to accomplish what they want to — a feeling that is probably very present in Jesper, as his refusal to indulge in his Grisha abilities gives him a wealth of pent up energy and anxiety.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

The Darkling

The Darkling — referred to as General Kirigan in the upcoming Netflix series—falls in line with the sign of the Crab, Cancer. This sign's positive traits include being incredibly tenacious, possessing a deep imagination, and a mastery over persuasion.

Angled into a negative light, a Cancer can be characterized as manipulative. At his very core, the Darkling's hunger for power has him scheming at every turn, using his natural interpersonal intuition to get precisely what he needs from other people.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Nina Zenik

Leos are fiery and bold, with a natural cheerfulness that makes this fire sign hard to ignore. Despite great difficulties in her life, Nina Zenik is a woman who takes joy in simple pleasures — namely food. Her loud and boisterous nature mirrors the inherent self-confidence of those under the sign of the Lion.

Leos are known for being creative and dramatic, fun traits that can get a bit sticky in combination with their tendency toward arrogance. This complicated mixture of strength and weakness is very apparent in her choice to try and protect Matthias Helvar by turning him in as a slaver. This plan was loyally well-intentioned, but had dark consequences she should have further considered.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Kaz Brekker

Kaz "Dirtyhands" Brekker isn't afraid to take on even the most despicable of jobs. The very definition of a Type A personality with a dark side, his hard-working nature and need to be in control has all the markings of a Virgo.

Often cold or ruthless, Kaz keeps emotions far from his decision-making process, much like the logic-based focus of those born under the sign of the Virgin. Though, as seen in his relationship with Inej, Kaz isn't without a soft side.

Virgos are often misunderstood as being emotionless, but they tend to merely have difficulty not only expressing, but accepting their own feelings. This methodical sign has a deep humanity buried under a need for analytical practicality.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Matthias Helvar

Libras are often considered to be people with deep ties to justice — which might make Matthias Helvar a surprising choice, depending how you look at it.

After being confined to the inhumane Hellgate penitentiary due to Nina Zenik's false claims that he was a slaver, Matthias walked away from the ordeal significantly colder. One thing often overlooked about Libras is their tendency to hold a grudge, and a desire for revenge is certainly what kept Matthias going through prison.

With this drive for retribution, those born under the sign of the scales are still fair-minded and reasonable. As the truth of Nina's good intentions come to light, Matthias slowly warms to the woman. And in an act of balance true to Libras, he dedicates himself to protecting Nina at any cost.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Zoya Nazyalensky

As many know, Scorpios are often considered the most contentious of the zodiac. Stubborn above all else, these scorpions are the most naturally inclined toward violence and secrecy.

Zoya Nazyalensky has her own vindictive streak. This comes out when she's faced with no longer being the Darkling's "favorite" upon Alina's arrival at the Little Palace.

But Scorpios have many good qualities, too! This water sign is resourceful — a trait evidenced by Zoya in her careful shifting of alliances and masterful use of her Grisha powers. Scorpios also tend to be deeply loyal when trust is proven, as Zoya is to her nation of Ravka.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

Nikolai Lantsov

Sagittarius is the sign of the Archer, a fire sign which displays traits of generosity, idealism, open-mindedness, and a love of freedom.

Much like this travel-loving sign, Nikolai Lantsov has his own trouble keeping still. Marauding as a privateer named Sturmhond, Nikolai proves himself to be an unconventional leader. However, Sagittarius have a tendency to bite off more than they can chew, much like Nikolai setting his ambitions on righting the wrongs of his kingdom of Ravka.

Capricorn (December 23-January 19)

Inej Ghafa

Inej Ghafa may be reserved, but this Dregs spy is full of personal strength. Like a classic Capricorn, Inej is disciplined and a veritable master of self-control.

One thing that is very important to this earth sign is tradition, a value exemplified by Inej in her recitation of Suli proverbs. Inherently serious and deeply independent, these paragons of self-control also have a tendency to lean into self-denial and distrust.

Inej can often come across as stand-offish, and — though it may be a fair choice — keeps Kaz Brekker at an arm's length despite her feelings for him, until he can bring down his own walls.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Alina Starkov

Those born under the sign of Aquarius are uncompromising humanitarians, deep thinkers who refuse to accept limitations.

As one of the most powerful Grisha to ever exist, Alina Starkov is no stranger to breaking barriers. Alina dedicates herself to taking on the Darkling at every turn, determined to end his oppressive power grabbing, even at great cost to herself.

This air sign walks a contradictory line in that, while many Aquarius are shy and quiet, they also tend to be eccentric and energetic. As a sickly and disparaged child, Alina makes choices to avoid drawing attention to herself. Yet, when she embraces her unique power, she flourishes.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Wylan Van Eck

Pisces — the sign of the Fish — tend to be wise and gentle people, with a tendency to be both overly trusting and deeply fearful.

Wylan Van Eck may be a demolition expert, but he is kind, and ultimately innocent at his core. Due to is illiteracy, Wylan prefers to surround himself with numbers or music — a trait which plays into this water sign's deep respect for musicality. This artistic sign is also very intuitive, which Wylan displays in unconventional ways with his calculated nature and natural curiosity.
