February 2021 has been an exciting month for Octavia Butler readers. Not only was the late author recently featured in an NPR Throughline episode, but she will also be honored Wednesday, February 24th in a special live virtual Symphony Space event.

Symphony Space's celebration of Butler will feature prominent writers discussing Butler's work, and actors reading excerpts from her bibliography. Guests will include authors N.K. Jemisin, Walter Mosley, and Imani Perry; playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins; and actors Yetide Badaki (American Gods) and Adepero Oduye (When They See Us).

The event is produced in cooperation with Library of America, which in March 2020 announced it would be publishing a special honorary collection of Butler's work, edited by Nisi Shawl and Gerry Canavan.

This exciting evening will air live on Wednesday, February 24th at 8 p.m. EST. Audience members watching live will be able to participate in a Q&A with panelists, but Symphony Space season pass holders will also be able to watch a recording of the event after the 24th at this link
