Octavia E. Butler, who passed away abruptly in 2006, wrote 12 books and two short story collections (one of which, Unexpected Stories, was published after her death). Two of her novels have also been adapted posthumously into graphic novels.

Butler's works reshaped the literary landscape, and have shown how speculative fiction can offer a radical framework for readers to reimagine their own communities.

In celebration of the upcoming 75th anniversary of Butler's birthday (mark your calendars for June 22nd, 2022!), The Portalist is sharing a series of graphics aimed at introducing new Butler readers to her work, and allowing long-time fans to learn new information about each of her novels.

1993's Parable of the Sower is a New York Times bestseller that has proved alarmingly prescient. Explore Parable of the Sower below!
