On Saturday, May 2nd, Octavia Butler’s novel Parable of the Sower was celebrated in the webinar, "Octavia Tried to Tell Us: Parable for Today’s Pandemic" — the first in a series of free courses on Butler's work.

The webinar was co-hosted by Tananarive Due and Monica A. Coleman—prominent Black authors with specialties in horror and theology, respectively. Their discussion centered around Butler’s prescience, and can be watched in its entirety in the recording below.

Though very few details about future webinars have been released, Due noted on Twitter that on May 16th she and Coleman will be accompanied by John Jennings, the artist who adapted Parable of the Sower into a graphic novel with author Damian Duffy. Parable of the Sower musical composer Toshi Reagon will also make an appearance on May the 9th.
