For over 55 years, Larry Niven has been a pioneering voice in science fiction. He's won the Hugo, Locus, and Nebula Awards, was given the Grand Master Award by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and has written for TV shows like Star Trek and The Outer Limits. Niven is a proud hard sci-fi writer, one who revels in theoretical physics and ideas of real science that could plausibly be applied to the real world.

But he's also dabbled in fantasy and includes elements of mystery and adventure in his novels. His back-catalog is mighty and includes a number of collaborations with other SFF icons. If you want a slice of retro sci-fi with one foot firmly in the future, Larry Niven is the one for you.

By Larry Niven

Ringworld was described as "arguably one of the most influential science fiction novels of the past 50 years" by The Guardian and it's not hard to see why. It encircles our planet like a curious ribbon.

Pierson's puppeteers, the aliens who discovered it, are putting together a team to explore it. Louis Wu, a bored human who just turned 200 years old, is recruited alongside a kzin, a huge cat-like alien, and Teela Brown, his new human girlfriend, to delve into the great unknown.
