Worlds Collide in the Epic First Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

So an Asgardian and a band of A-holes walk into a bar...

Marvel has finally released the first trailer for the long-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War, and it's packed with more heroes than you can shake an Infinity Gauntlet at.

Primed to tie together every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie from 2008's Iron Man to February 2018's Black Panther, Infinity War is anticipated to pay off storylines that MCU fans have been invested in for years, in some cases as long as a decade. That's not an easy task, but our first look at Infinity War seems like it will fulfill those epic expectations.

Infinity War is the culmination of the first major arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and follows heroes (and some antiheroes) from across the franchise as they unite to prevent titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) from completing his Infinity Gauntlet and wielding power across the galaxy. The magic of The Avengers is that we're reunited with almost every Marvel character we know and love. This time around, we'll be adding Peter Parker (Tom Holland), under the care of his sarcastic mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).

We love the humor involved in the Avengers movies, but we have to say that this trailer makes the latest installment seem more epic and brutal than any of its predecessors. The slo-mo shots? Check. A focused gaze at Captain America (Chris Pine) looking patriotic? You've got it. Stepping right off the heels of the excellent Black Panther, it's hard to imagine what the Marvel team will think of next.

While we wait for the release of the movie in May, make sure to watch the trailer one, two, or infinity more times to hold you over. In the meantime, we'll be thinking of theories for what scene, or scenes, will be rolling after the final credits.

The movie was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the brothers behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, and is slated to hit theaters May 4th, 2018.
