Trekkies, hold on to your phasers: this is not a drill!
A combination trailer and cast announcement for season three of Star Trek: Picard has just dropped! Go ahead and take a quick watch—or two or three—and savor the inevitable chills:
One of the more thrilling aspects of each new season of Picard has been discovering which members of the original cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation will have a cameo or guest role.
In season one, Picard reunites with Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis); these guest roles are all interwoven with a more central Data (Brent Spiner) storyline.
In addition to these nods to the original TNG crew, season one also saw the return of Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) from Star Trek: Voyager. So far, in season two of Picard, Picard is revisited by one of his main nemeses, Q (John de Lancie), and we are also treated to a charming cameo by Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg).
While these cameos and guest appearances of the original TNG cast have been nostalgic, they haven’t exactly been a reboot of the original series. And while the show remains its own offshoot of the franchise, if this new trailer for season three is any indication, Picard is finally going to offer us the ultimate TNG reunion we crave!

The trailer is soaked in TNG nostalgia, featuring voiceovers from Geordi LaForge (LeVar Burton), Worf (Michael Dorn), Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), and Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes.)
We also hear the older, more affected voice of Brent Spiner—an indication that, while Data is unlikely to make another appearance, Spiner will likely be reprising his role as Data’s creator, Dr. Noonien Soong. The end of the trailer lists their names, confirming with a resounding YES, the original crew is getting back together.
One notable absence in this cast announcement is Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton)—but whether this is a deliberate omission or merely information withheld for a future surprise, only time will tell.
So buckle up: The Next Generation crew is going on an ol' fashioned road trip—and season three (reportedly the final season) promises to be the best of Picard yet.
