The Third 'Octavia Tried to Tell Us' Webinar Explores Art & Fear in the Era of Corona

The 'parable for a pandemic' series looks to Butler's texts for guidance during unprecedented times.

Octavia Butler webinar 3

May 16th marked the third installment in the 'Octavia Tried to Tell Us' webinar series, which features authors, artists, and others looking at Octavia Butler's work during the context of the coronavirus.

This week's conversation featured the series' hosts Tananarive Due and Monica A. Coleman in conversation with author Steven Barnes—who is Due's husband, as well as a friend of the late Butler—along with Damian Duffy and John Jennings. Duffy and Jennings have collaborated on graphic novel adaptations of Kindred and Parable of the Sower, pictured above.

Watch the full recording of Saturday's conversation below.

The 'Octavia Tried To Tell Us' webinar series is taking a week off, but Coleman and Due say it will return soon.

You can watch the week two webinar, featuring Parable of the Sower opera co-creator Toshi Reagon and Ayana A. Jamieson of the Octavia E. Butler Legacy Network, here.

Celebrate Butler's work with the Parable of the Sower graphic novel!
