About the Book

Practical Magic: Deluxe Edition (The Practical Magic Series)

Practical Magic: Deluxe Edition (The Practical Magic Series)

By Alice Hoffman

For centuries, the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, have been treated as outsiders and blamed for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town. As adults, they grow tired of being whispered at and strongly dislike their elderly aunts' unapologetically musty house surrounded by a crowd of black cats.

So they decide to leave town completely. One sister escapes by marrying, and the other runs away. But an unforeseen bond pulls the sisters back together, forcing them to confront their family history and the power of sisterhood. Practical Magic remains an unforgettable tale of witchcraft where happy endings may be possible.

First published in 1995, Practical Magic, by Alice Hoffman, is a cult-classic favorite. It offers a modern take on witchcraft, paired with an emotional story of sisterhood and female empowerment. The Deluxe Paperback edition features a new cover with foil details and an exquisite stenciled edge.

The book became a New York Times Bestseller and gained even wider fame when it was adapted into a 1998 film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Because of the book and film's success, Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2026, with the same female leads and returning stars Stockard Channing and Dianne West.

The sequel film is set 25 years after the events of the first film, and follows the Owens family and their attempt to break the curse that has haunted their lineage in hopes to save the next generation of their family.
