Since the series was announced in 2019, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. HBO gave the series a 10-episode order, and the teaser trailer is finally here!

Watch the first footage of HBO’s House of the Dragon below.

Based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire and Blood, House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen and the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war that became known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when the Targaryens ruled Westeros thanks in large part to their magical connection to dragons.

The teaser doesn’t give much away, but we still get a first look at several major characters. The narration is provided by Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), brother of King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and heir to the throne. Also featured is Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), a dragonrider and Viserys’ daughter whom he is grooming to become the first queen of Westeros.

Rhaenyra and Daemon aren’t the only ones with their eye on the Iron Throne. Princess Rhaenys Velaryon (Eve Best) was once in line to be queen following the death of the previous king, but was passed over by the lords of Westeros in favor of Viserys because she was a woman. Other members of the cast include Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, and Jefferson Hall.

Co-created by George R.R. Martin and screenwriter Ryan J. Condal, House of the Dragon promises to be an exciting story of political intrigue in the fantasy setting of Game of Thrones that we’ve come to love. The series is set to premiere sometime in 2022.
